Survival of the Glamest

22 Jun

Yesterday evening, I headed over t0 Townhouse Spa in midtown to celebrate Indique Hair’s new innovation, ‘The Glam Survival Kit.’  The Kit includes a clip-in fishnet, clip-on ponytail and clip-on bang with a nail polish called Indique Pink, a collaboration with Ginger + Liz.

Now, I’m not up on hair pieces but I adore Ginger and Liz. As a matter of fact, I had some on last week for Full Figured Fashion Week, so I was excited to attend.

The event was intimate and fun, featuring on-the-spot manicures–in the signature ‘Indique Pink’–make-up applications, hair stations and drinks, courtesy of X-Rated Fusion (which is essentially some sort of liquid magic made of premium French Vodka, blood oranges and mangoes).

Also, ran into the lovely Christina of Love Brown Sugar . After much debating, she will not move to Brooklyn, nor will I move to Harlem. We settled on cupcakes and food outings in-between : )

Editor’s note: The original pictures were a hot mess. I had to re-shoot. (Slightly better) reenactments below:

Feeling both overly warm and saucy, I decided to keep the party going with my sheer dresses. This one is actually Gisela Ramirez’ famed silk organza sack dress. Gisela was awesome and handmade this dress for me before it was available for purchase, but here’s the back story–this is actually what I had in mind to wear for the Full Figured Fashion Week Finale. But, of course, I tried it on and broke the strap (because I’m really just Lennie from Of Mice and Men and need to work on the concept of ‘soft touches’).

Not to be deterred, I debuted it the first minute I could at Tuesday’s party.

Yes, it is sheer. Yes, that is my tummy. Yes, I am quite happy with it. But bear this in mind, if you wear a sheer dress, people will stare you directly in the boobs. Or at least, they do when I wear sheer things *insert shimmy here*.

Anyway, upon arrival, the dress is crinkled and wrapped in a ball. Originally, I figured I’d iron it out and wear it billowing, but the crinkled option is so cute. I may just keep it like this indefinitely.

My camera (which suddenly started taking terrible pictures) is not doing this piece justice. How many times do you find a dress that is as appropriate over jeans as it is at a semi-formal event?

As always, thanks for reading!
