Hello. Was it Me You Were Looking For?

21 Feb

Cheese on bread. Where do I even begin?

Let me make this long ‘What I Did On my Winter Vacation’ Story as short as possible.

1. I joined an incredible service organization and legacy of women.

2. I lost a job (yikes) and in short order, found one that drives me crazy and inspires me (sweet…and sometimes, yikes). It also has made me redefine what I think I cannot do. For example, up until recently, I had no idea I could, with just 24 hours notice, single-handedly organize a rally, hold a press conference on the steps on NY City Hall, haveĀ  El Jefe, Mayor Bloomberg show up unexpectedly to listen, give like four media interviews and then facilitate a large-scale town hall all in one day.

But see?

It turns out that I can.

3. In my blogging absence, I found out that I featured in ModCloth’s Blog as the Valentine’s Day Fave Find!

But woman cannot live on community service and advocacy work alone. So, most important, I missed you dearly.

So, hi again and onto the fashions.

This is past weekend I headed to Albany for the Black, Puerto Rican and Asian Caucus. Caucus is such a mixed bag. At its core, it’s a large-scale meeting that brings together elected officials and community leaders to discuss policy issues effecting communities of color. But play your cards differently and it’s a fashion show, a three-day party and an unparralled spectacle, for better or worse.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated offered members specialized programming during Caucus and ask that we wear pink and green. Now, I love my colors but I’m not usually prone to dress like an Easter egg and my NY sensibilities make me lean towards your black, greys and navys.

So I married the pretty of pink and green with weight of androgyny and fun accessories.

Later in the weekend I got an unexpected invite to the Caucus’ closing night gala. So, I dipped into my reserves and debuted a fun LBD.

Also, my dress literally cost less than my necklace. So, I’m fairly certain the weekend came up all Addi.

Thank you for reading. So happy that we’re talking again.

OMG, I can’t believe that you’re finally back! I’ve been checking everyday for a new post, resisting the urge to send you a facebook note to see if you’re okay. Congrats on all of the new glories in your life – I know that it will lead to wonderful things and wonderful fashion!

Hey Juliette! Thank you so much for being patient with me and for the well wishes!. I didn’t realize how much I would miss blogging until I wasn’t able to do it for awhile. Heck, I was checking back at my OWN blog from time, just trying to remember the good old days when I made time to blog, lol.

Happy to sharing fashion and talking with you again!

Thanks! I was watching the dress like a hawk and when it went down, I grabbed for about 30$. Here’s the secret though; when I sat down, the ENTIRE lining of the dress ripped up the middle. Luckily, no one could tell (and frankly the dress was way more comfortable that way) but still–I guess you get what you pay for, lol.
