Fox Trot {Animal Caricature & Tweed}

26 Nov

This year, Mama Curve decreed that no kitchen of hers (or mine) would be ripped asunder for Thanksgiving efforts.

So we took our bellies and parked them at restaurant in Midtown.

I realize that no one is really talking about winter shorts this season, that doesn’t make them any less adorable. One must use more than just the trends to define their fashion choices, you know?

Speaking of trends, I’ve been enamored with animal caricature sweaters and wanted one I could wear at work and at play.  I love the whimsy,  but the ones I’ve seen are a little too twee.

Let’s be candid: I look like a cross between a Cabbage Patch doll and young Gary Coleman;  workplace ageism is real and my fight for professional legitimacy never ends. So, where am I going in a fuzzy, pastel pink sweater with a baby chick on the front?

This sweater created an entry point for me. The Autumn-ready color and well place fox detail are great way to do the trend ‘quirky,’ not cute.

But meanwhile, all that carrying on about ‘cute vs quirky’ and I end up serendipitously styling my hair into bow.

This hair was a happy accident. I regret nothing.

#NowTrending {Peplums, Patterned Jeans & Wedges}

15 Nov

I hate trends. I love trends. What I do not like is that moment when they peak and suddenly, that special thing, that fashion moment you sought out in myriad ways feels ubiquitous and pedestrian.

Up for discussion? The peplum.

When peplums made their return (keep in mind, they’ve oscillated in and out of fashion since the 17th century), I swooned. And when I came to, I was peplumed down to the socks.

But I decided to not put them on the blog, because I figured ‘how many more peplums can the online community take?’ Thing is, I endeavor to make this space both a timeless snapshot and time capsule of how I interpret fashion. So, love them or hate them, the trends tell a story.

At any rate, this is my peplum. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.

Patterned jeans had me at hello. I prefer them muted which I think is an unexpected compliment to what can be a decadent look.

At one point, I had on a jacket, but it’s November, so it’s obviously Summer time and my jacket proved unneccessary.

(that was irony and not-so-veiled critique on our increasing infirmed climate).

As always, thanks for reading; talk soon.

Skirting the Issue {Chambray & Snake Prints}

12 Nov

*My orginal blog post was erased. Let’s try this from the top.*

I’ve just realized that my last few blog posts have been all-skirts, all the time. Strange how that is; I used to hate skirts and dresses. I wore jeans throughout high school and college and when I joined the workforce, kept the party going with a slight upgrade to slacks.

Funny how we change. Has anyone else experienced personal  style revolutions?

Nevertheless, variety is the spice of life. So, there are pants posts on the way; scout’s honour. In the meantime, more skirtage below.

This Old Navy shirt may be one of the best things I’ve purchased from the store, thus far. A wardrobe workhorse, to be sure.

I finally found booties that I enjoy. The cut of the shoe works well with my leg and the slight hidden platform makes them all-day comfy.

My love for rose gold grows daily. Even though it’s on-trend, it’s still a bit unexpected. And, as a ‘mixed-metal’ phile, I enjoy enjoy pairing my rose gold and silver.

As always, thanks for reading; Talk soon.

Dotted.

10 Apr

As I said in my spring haul, I love polka dots this season; can’t get enough.

As much as I love the dots, I’m kind of enamored with these loafers. They are actually my very first pair. These could quite possibly be the best thing I’ve purchased from ASOS ever.

Prepare to see these often.
