On the Bright Side {Stripes, Neutrals & Brights}

19 Nov

Just a quick look at something I wore today. Today’s weather was extra grey; a cacophony of stripes, brights and dots seemed like just the right amount of sartorial dissonance.

This striped top is a random find from H&M plus line. And just as an aside, I must admit; I’ve been pleased with what I’ve found there. Then again, H&M has never been my fashion all in all, so I did not expect their plus size line to change that. As was always the case, a few pieces merited a take home (which I did); most were throw-away.

Even though I’ve had natural hair for ages (21 years to be exact), I’m still learning my hair. I spent a great deal of my time thinking that it wasn’t enough. As in, it was too curly to be worn out and then, not curly enough to be sensational. As of late, I’ve learned to make peace with my hair. I let it be. I don’t manipulate it as much and I wear styles that accentuate what my hair naturally does. Admittedly, it can get a little ‘Sideshow Bob-ish,’ but,  so far, so good (Plus, Sideshow’s hair was kind of dope).

From the Heart {Merino Wool & Chiffon}

6 Nov

As promised, I wanted to share my take on one of the skirts I scored in my recent Target haul.

Clothing really is what you make it. A cheap (and arguably matronly) polka dot full skirt, gets quirky real quick when paired  with the unexpected.

Spots on dots for shoes, a sweater in bold colors and barely there jewelry that still makes an impact, does the job.

(big hair and hot pink lipstick is, of course, optional).

Green on Greener {A Grizzly Approach}

17 May

I have a friend who often says, “If you’re going to be a bear, be a grizzly.” It’s a Ghandi quote, but essentially it means that if you are going to do something, really do it. So the burgeoning Spring time weather seems like a perfect opportunity to wear a double dose of my favorite color for the season.

As of late, it feels like my approach to neons is as ‘grizzly bear-ed’ out as possible. I’ve found that pairing a neon with a saturated version of the same color, makes for a super bold, Spring-time take on monochromatic dressing.

It’s not for the faint of fashion heart, but then again, if you’re considering a neon anything, I sort of doubt that’s your issue.

Coco Chanel once said, “Put on all the accessories you think you should wear… and then take one piece off.” These days, I feel like I’ve been putting on all of my accessories and then adding one more piece.  I’ve always loved jewelry from afar, but choice-overload gives me a kind of fashion paralysis. Thus, I have never been much of an accessory girl. Lately, I can’t get enough of it.
